State of the Scribe: April 2023

April 1, 2023

Hello Pones!

Pretty significant month for me, even if things on the schedule aren’t changing much. At the end of this month, I’ll be removing “Student” from my profile after far too long. I wouldn’t have been able to make it this far without the contributions of my patrons. I’d like to begin by offering my deep, personal thanks to my patrons your support, allowing me to do something I loved so dearly during these years of my life.

I’m not going anywhere as an author–I wouldn’t leave all these stories unfinished. In fact, I’ll be able to write much more now that my time is more fervently devoted to authorship. Still, it’s a significant transition, and I’ll say more about it as I cross that threshold and get more original fiction published.

The most significant development this month is of course the addition of a new Hardcover to the collection, Homebrew:

This story was one of my most significant, one that left a deep impression on me many years later. I just couldn’t imagine a world where I didn’t get a copy of it onto my shelf. If you want one too, you can grab it here: https://igg.me/at/starscribe-homebrew

I’ll post again once I have real photos from the printer, then again when the campaign ships, since I love posting photos of boxes and boxes of books. Nothing satisfies my values more deeply than that.

No new developments in my writing for the month otherwise. We have the same suite of stories continuing. Still haven’t run out of weekly chapters for Words of Power, and there’s some amazing art coming down the pipeline for it this month. Don’t Bug Me is still going strong, not sure how long Amie will need to save all the bug-humans stuck in Equestria. A little while longer.

Spirits of Change, my Pokemon story about a version of that world where every human being’s soul exists outside their body as a pokemon. The story is on my patreon free to all: https://www.patreon.com/RealStarscribe/posts?filters[tag]=Spirits%20of%20Change&sort=published_at

Similarly, Deep Below is a Splatoon story, exploring the fate of humanity and their return into a world now dominated by ink-based life. Explores lots of the same TF themes that most of my readers probably expect. Can read that one here: https://www.patreon.com/RealStarscribe/posts?filters%5Btag%5D=Deep%20Below&sort=published_at

Both of these will get full Epub/PDF releases as soon as they’re complete. But until/unless we ever get a genfic, I can’t post them here.

Beyond the Veil of Sleep explores what happens to the bats left behind after Nightmare Moon’s defeat. We see their sorry state, and one bat who’s determined to rescue her princess and save her kind. You can read the first chapter here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/new-story-45878879

Then we have Second String, the story of brave earth warriors recruited from a football match to liberate a storm-king conquered Equestria: https://www.patreon.com/posts/new-story-in-78044865

Then of course we have Legio IX Hispania, a historical piece exploring what might happen if the lost roman legion had been lost in Equestria after all: https://www.patreon.com/posts/new-story-legio-78027950
