State of the Scribe: July 2024

Hey pones! Another month has come, and so another update! I’ve spent the last several weeks away on vacation, but fortunately I write with a substantial safety margin around the edges to make sure each story can keep going. I’ll be returning home tomorrow though, and so my normal schedule will return. Expect the calendar to get even fuller next month.

In terms of pony stories, mostly just keeping time this month. Shattered pentacle probably has another month or two after this, but then that will move to its conclusion. The same is also true of Words of Power, that’s progressing towards its end in the next few months. Are there more exciting pony stories coming in the future? Absolutely, though the scale might be a little slower than I could before.

One of those comes in the form of Fangs, Feathers, and Flames, the new story that began last month. That will be added to the roster of monthly stories, continuing until their conclusion before being posted on Fimfiction.

Fangs, Feathers, and Flames takes on familiar territory–ponies on earth, transformation, adventure, and large scope. This one follows a group of three friends, each of which end up transformed into a different race (hence the title). Why were they changed? Who is that strange woman hunting them, and where did she get her magic? They may have to travel to Equestria for the answers they’re seeking. The other new story was Accidental Sunshine, which is a few months old at this point. This one follows a changeling before the invasion, who ends up working her way into Ponyville and taking on the identity of the first pony she met there. Expect another pony story next month. Probably running slower, just like these. But they’re a way to let me keep writing even though I don’t have the time to devote every waking moment to fanfiction like I once did.

Now there’s one other little story on there, one that will become weekly for the next little while. This is another of those bizarre ideas that took me unexpectedly, demanding it get written. It’s not pony, but if someone has been following me for any length of time I suspect you may enjoy it. We’ll see. Playing Koi:

I’d call it an urban fantasy romance. But more than that, I’d say it’s a story of a girl who discovers her girlfriend has ended up trapped inside a magical cursed aquarium in a shopping mall, and follows to rescue her. Jemma enters a world of submerged magic, of curses and danger and deadly predators, all unseen by the people passing the aquarium walls. A story of transformation, love, and loss. This is what happens when I have an absurd little idea, and keep going until it’s finished.
